Blackwood Plant Hire provides modern plant, specialist equipment and hire support for construction, infrastructure, civil engineering and groundworks projects across Scotland.

Blackwood’s strength comes from the people behind the machines – experienced, practical and focused on getting the job done properly. From yard to site, our team works to high standards, with safety, service and reliability at the centre of every job.
I started with BPH as an operator in 2002. Now, as Operations Director, I oversee daily operations, helping our teams keep everything moving safely and efficiently.
David manages northern operations, coordinating people, plant and site requirements to keep projects running efficiently.
James is all about better systems, fresh thinking and supporting the team as the business grows.
David’s all about teamwork, pride in the job and helping the business grow every day.
Martin’s all about customer relationships, keeping the fleet moving and bringing decades of industry experience to the team.
Alan’s all about smooth service, strong coordination and supporting the team to keep things moving.
Arlene oversees northern plant operations, keeping equipment, teams and customer requirements moving smoothly.
Pauline keeps Blackwood Training Academy running smoothly, bringing 14 years of construction experience to a fast-paced and ever-changing role.
Peter leads training delivery and assessment at Blackwood, using his industry knowledge to develop skilled, confident and safety-focused operators.
Sharon brings a wealth of training experience to Blackwood, supporting clients and candidates with a friendly, knowledgeable and practical approach.

Our Story
The Blackwood story dates back to 1960 shaped by hard work, steady growth and generations of people committed to doing things properly. From early beginnings to the modern plant hire business of today, every step has helped build the reputation Blackwood carries across Scotland.
1960
Tom Blackwood Snr starts Blackwood Plant Hire, evolving from land drainage and agricultural work.
2001
Tom Blackwood Jnr buys BPH comprising of two JCB 3CX machines and begins expanding.
2010
BPH became Network Rail Link Up approved for off track plant receiving a 5 star audit.
2017
May 1st MBO performed by Paul McCormack and Allan Wilson.
2021
BPH reached Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme accreditation for our HGVs.
2022
Blackwood Training Academy launched to address the skills gap within the industry and invest in the future workforce.
2024
